Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was the longest serving monarch in British history. Born in 1926, she acceded to the throne in 1952 after the death of her father King George VI.

The people of Leicester celebrated The Queen’s coronation in 1953 with parties, events and decorations hung on buildings across the city.
