Route Histories was commissioned by Leicester City Council to mark the completion of the Waterside Sanvey Gate Junction Improvement Project, delivered in partnership with the Department for Local Communities and Government and the Homes and Communities Agency.
Over 50m in length, the artwork is installed along Northgate Street and Soar Lane, to the north of Leicester City Centre.
The artwork, Route Histories, was created by artist Helen Saunders, who uses a method of digital photo-collage to explore and transform our everyday surroundings. For this commission, she created a photographic collage celebrating Leicester's riverside, green spaces and key buildings, between Bede Park and Abbey Park. The theme for the artwork was inspired by suggestions from the Woodgate Residents Association and Fosse Arts.
